Excellent workplace culture and upper management, job security monimal

The CEO and upper management are excellent and truly “walk their talk.” The workplace culture is one of respect and inclusion. There is an honest desire to let people feel comfortable and safe to be their real selves.The job was fully remote with the option to work in a local office if so desired.However, there was a lack of job security as a result of “corporate restructuring.” In my first role, though we were assured this would not happen, our accounts were being sent overseas and so we were no longer needed. After being changed to a new role and department my position was eliminated as well as those of many others.

Excellent upper management, fully remote, great workplace culture, Flex Time allowed for an exceptional work life balance

Job security is an issue due to corporate restructuring

Long working hours with minimal benefits, depends on your team/ boss, no OT, audit can expose you to different industries, but in audit there’s no work life balance

Poor Management

BDO was not an unpleasant place to work, until management decided cut back an unprofitable line of business in my unit. Cutting back that line of business was absolutely the right thing to do. But amazingly, senior management fired the managers who had built up the one profitable line of business in the unit, and gave control of that business to the managers who had built up the unprofitable line.

Under resourced, not delivering well to clients, bad leadership decisions. Not a great company culture with little to no real support. Long hours and little rewards

Toxic culture

Hardworking is not appreciated, social presence is. The company places an immense emphasis on being "visible" in the workplace. It often equates to maintaining a constant social presence. The more you engage in office banter, attend after-work gatherings, and actively network with colleagues, the more you're recognized and valued by management.

Poor management

The company does not live up to their core purpose or values. They need to choose their leadership more wisely because they make the biggest impact on the rest of the employees. There are nice people at BDO, but a few bad eggs will ruin the whole experience.

Great working culture

I am incredibly fortunate to be part of a workplace that truly values its employees. Great culture

Nice, helpful people. 55 billable hours required during busy season. Good exposure to different areas of tax before choosing your focus. Compensation is the usual for public accounting, always underpaid if you calculate the hourly rate with the salary number.

Better than average if you want to go into public accounting

Better than most other public accounting firms and other BDO offices, but it's still public accounting. So expect long days and many hours, especially during busy season.

Limited career growth - no direction

Working at BDO proved to be a limiting experience for me. Unfortunately, I found that there weren't many career development opportunities within the company. The management team didn't provide any constructive feedback on my performance, which left me feeling somewhat in the dark about how to improve and progress in my role. All in all, my time at BDO was not particularly enjoyable, and I didn't feel like it was the right fit for my career aspirations and professional growth.

Great place and good culture overall in the office but not great on progression. You have to really fight to get promoted despite producing good results.

Great work place

Great fun place. They find ways to help you on your job and always ready to listen.The people are easy to talk to and are always happy to serve.They have alot of training to help you be more effective at work and will even provide additional support if needed.

Political

Realised the place is quite political. If you are on good terms with the top ppl, you will go far and be booked on better jobs. Although, I would say you can learn a lot if you are willing.

BDO in Milwaukee has a very toxic workplace and students should steer clear of internships at that company. They do not give negative feedback and hold it against you.
