Toxic culture

Hardworking is not appreciated, social presence is. The company places an immense emphasis on being "visible" in the workplace. It often equates to maintaining a constant social presence. The more you engage in office banter, attend after-work gatherings, and actively network with colleagues, the more you're recognized and valued by management.

Limited career growth - no direction

Working at BDO proved to be a limiting experience for me. Unfortunately, I found that there weren't many career development opportunities within the company. The management team didn't provide any constructive feedback on my performance, which left me feeling somewhat in the dark about how to improve and progress in my role. All in all, my time at BDO was not particularly enjoyable, and I didn't feel like it was the right fit for my career aspirations and professional growth.

Lovely exposure but the people aren't that great

I love working at BDO, however the people have made it unbearable. Favoritism- some trainees are never idle and get planned on the best clients however this isn't the case for some

Culture is great. The green team is great to work for and the partners really get to know there staff and help then grow as a team. The managers are always willing to help explain concepts.

Great work experience

It’s a great training ground for accounting graduates and aspiring CPAs. A bit challenging when it’s busy season, but it’s worthwhile if you enjoy learning.

Awful

Got out of there as soon as I could. LOTS of favoritism it's disgusting. Lots of false promises to get you started in the company and then the managers treat you in the worst way possible. BEWARE. Big 4 is way better.

Worst place to work in Canada

Terrible place to work and you are treated awful by everyone. Highschool mentality and super cliquey. Only the favorites get the best files and everyone else is treated poorly. Lots of gossip and you go in the office knowing its going to be an awful day EVERY SINGLE DAY. Management is a joke and they have no idea what they're doing. No morale and higher ups lie and lie, play favorites, and make everyone else miserable. RUN AWAY if you don't want to cry every single day.

Management is great, flexible work culture and learning opportunities. Opportunities for promotion if you put in the work. Hours are not as long as big 4.

It’s public accounting so dont expect much

It’s a typical international mega firm. A white collar sweat shop. Most people don’t work here for their lifetime. They work here to get whatever post graduate education and work experienced finished (CPA, CFA, MBA) and they leave for greener pastures. I plan to do the same. You should too.

Same as any other accounting firms, works are fast paced and stressful. Good for people who commit in public accounting. Turnovers are relatively high.

friendly in appearance only. Toxic kind of culture amongst newmanagement and their inclusive team, revolving door of staff with many new people not staying, top heavy management with very few minions due to everyone leaving
