A good place to accounting student for starting your career. Manager are good trainer and give you a lot of confidence.But there has low income and too much workload.

Good experience, busy busy hours

It’s a good learning experience and most people are nice and friendly, but the hours expected are heavy and compensation is not in line to reflect those hours. Benefits are good, but PTO and 401K match could be better.

The culture is wonderful. Many events and opportunities to connect with co-workers. Competitive benefits and pay. Lenient on business casual to ensure you're comfortable when you're in the office. Not a work life balance place.

Not a work life balance place. Too pressure and career advisor doesn’t help at all, seniors give you a lot of works and report whatever you do wrong even minor errors to manager.

Much to learn

Pros - A whole lot to learn, you're literally entering a new school but getting paid, albeit lower than notable competitors. Seniors are 9 out of 10 willing to teach/explain. Cons - Managers can be intimidating and prone to be "accusing" you (which will affect your performance review) if you don't explain yourself right there and then. The frustration and grievance may build up and is ultimately bad for one's mental health. It's unfortunate for those who are unable to verbally communicate there and then, explanations will lead to misunderstanding.

Good place to work.Learning is less but no tight deadlines to complete work.Compensation is less but flexible in terms of wfh.Not strict seniors or onshores

Reputation Matters

Your work matters, but you reputation/popularity matters more. Can definitely be a boys club if you are stuck working with the wrong people and you pretty much just need to deal with it. Keep your head down and stay in the middle of your cohorts performance-wise. There is practically no salary raise difference between the best performer and the worst. I know this for a fact. Being a top performer just gets you more work.

Better than Big4

BDO has a better working culture than Big4 entities. However, they do have smaller clients and you cannot become manager as fast as in Big4. Since, they have lower turnover rate and less stressful environment.

Unethical Business Model

I spent 3 years here in the mid-2010s right out of grad school. I chose the firm over offers from all of the Big 4 (Milwaukee or Chicago offices) and some government offers (GAO, FBI) because I liked the managers and partners I interviewed with, they gave me the hard sell on their firm, and I preferred to be in Milwaukee due to a family health concern. I was promoted to Audit Senior after 2+ years and never received a single piece of negative feedback in my time with BDO Milwaukee. Then, I was unexpectedly terminated after a 3rd busy season with zero explanation. Keeping in touch with former coworkers over the last 5+ years, it seems my situation is the normal course of business at this firm, rather than an aberration. It's basically their business model to fire staff and management whenever the office is failing to meet earnings expectations...which seems to be a nearly annual occurrence.Fortunately, the two managers I had worked for at BDO provided me with excellent recommendations and I landed a lateral position with a Big 4 in Chicago in a matter of weeks, where I was recently promoted to Senior Manager. Even though I landed on my feet, I look back at my time with BDO as, without question, the worst experience of my career. If getting terminated without cause isn't bad enough, I have come to realize that the Milwaukee Office partners, managers, training, and work-product are all subpar at best. I would strongly recommend that potential employees avoid this place at all costs. Unless it's your only job offer, pretty much any other option is likely an upgrade.

Productive and fun

Everyone I’ve worked with has been great. The managers and seniors really want to help you succeed and they understand that asking questions is necessary to grow and learn. Busy season is busy season, work hard play hard

It's ok

It is public accounting. You are going to work long hours for at least 4 months of the year, and possibly into summer as well depending on the client base. Lots of pressure on staff to meet deadlines.

Good

Good company to work for, can be stressful at times but that is just the nature of the job, can end up working long hours with no overtime paid but again this is the industry norm.

Good for exposure

Good exposure as every few months have different audit engagement. Get to learn/experience new stuff quickly due to steep learning curve. But heavy workload and have to handle multiple jobs concurrently. Seniors are nice though!

Uneven workloads and little caring/training

Piles up work on their good staff/seniors and more or less ignore the others instead of trying to train them. Managers shift blame if anything goes wrong and pretend to care about you and your concerns only to screw you over when they need to. Performance evaluation process is horribly vague and subjective. Training might as well be non-existent. They introduce new templates and apps that no one even knows how to use and you just figure it out.

Clear career progression path, pretty good pay at higher levels

Punished for being good, busy season is grueling

+ fast paced environment, great learning curve - underappreciated efforts, quick burnout - non-competitive pay - no overtime pay - almost nonexistent allowance, very stingy - medium size firm means workload is at least as bad as (if not worse than) big4, but with lesser salary - super long hours

Great Place to Advance my career

This office is top notch even among other BDO offices. The partner group is the highest quality and they expect the work to reflect that. They foster a great learning environment. Public accounting busy seasons are intense, but there is so much learned after everyone.

Wonderful people to work with. A lot of smart people to learn from.

People in the firm are very smart and fun to work with. I learned a lot from my managers and peers. Compared to bigger firms, I was given more responsibility over the audit at an earlier part of my career.
