Fun workplace

Good place to work. Good pay. Bonuses. Only downside is you’re constantly pushed to hit 2VSAs, 4Appts, and 2Xfers a day. When business is slow, it becomes hard to reach your quotas, but expectations are still there.

Relax work environment
Working in Detail can be challenging depend on the condition of the car.The people you worked with were the most fun.Management was very relaxed.I earned a bachelor's degree at their cost.

What is the best part of working at the company?Very stressful work place, worked at 3 different Carmax stores and saw that not very good environment. Lots of favouritism and everyone looking for mistakes to report to HR. In my opinion it is the company fault. What is the most stressful part about working at the company?Very stressful work place. The company has been very careless when it comes to the managers. Putting a lot of stress on the managers and have managers baby sitting instead managing. What is the work environment and culture like at the company?It seams like fake environment and not very friendly culture. What is a typical day like for you at the company?Very stressful. Always busy either selling cars or not and working super hard then not get the credit for my work. It always I get my balls breaks by my LGM instead recognition.

Values and culture are a facade

The leadership above store level are all aloof. They all believe they are better than the front line associates. They lie and fabricate information regularly. They generate compliance through intimidation, and veiled threats. Favoritism is overwhelming.

Stay away from the Business Office

They care about numbers and not employees. Your breaks are watched, you are micromanaged daily, if you aren’t benefiting that manager they will let you go. Very toxic environment

In the beginning I enjoyed working for CarMax however, they gradually increased over the phone sales pressure and the need to use specific verbiage when communicating with customers. Pros: Hybrid/Remote, Monthly Bonus Opportunities, BenefitsCons: Sales Pressure, Metrics Requirements, Pressure from upper management trickles down causing low morale and lack of collaboration in some teams

My experience

I enjoyed my time here because the people were easier to work with. I always felt seen and heard. The only down side are the hrs I had to work. The hrs weren't set so sometimes I'd work a late shift and then turn around and work an early shift. This was really inconvenient because my commute was roughly 1 hr each way.

I had a chance to work with a great team and managers. They would buy us food when it was too busy. I loved working there, but sometimes it could take hours to finish with just one customer.

Bad management on a local and corporate level

Management is very unorganized. They would make you come in on a unscheduled work day, with no plan of action. We would end up doing busy work and not doing anything that would help us hit our prosecution number. Any issues between associates gets handled by HR which is out of state.

Cool Perks, structure is weird

CarMax offers a lot of cool things for just being an employee like discounts on cars, their whole Perks-at-work, and other cool things. What I don't like is the work-life balance, the overly positive corporate atmosphere (I like a positive work environment but not one that can drain you), and the bonus cap. Oh, Also the systems goodness goodness goodness those systems are outdated! But other than those things its nice to know you will have work to do when you come in and not just twiddle your thumbs for 8hrs.
