Management will make it break your experience at the company. If your manager is good they will guide and build you. If not you’re stuck with a manager who will just keep you in the same place and try to fire you.

If you can deal with the management then the job and benefits are good. Not a good job if you need a flexible schedule. Does have options for growth.

Probably my favorite job

I loved working at Carmax both in Ontario, CA and in Fayetteville, NC. There were a lot of possible ways to move up or to move around in the company. Also, they were always feeding us. Almost as if they were trying to find reasons to feed us all the time.

Good job poor management

The job itself was great. Team member were overall good people. The only down fall was the management would make uneducated decisions. Good pay for the work.

Fun and room for advancement

The training goes by so smoothly and co workers make it a point to make you feel like a team. They value employee honesty and productivity. Worst part of the job was only dealing with a crowded parking lot and cars that were beyond saving in the interior

Racism from managers, favoritism from managers, target certain employees and consistently give them a hard time, bad place to work, not allowed to form connections with coworkers

It’s not worth the slight jump in hourly pay

Casual and easy job, with virtually 0 upward movement or progression

Management is nice, the company feeds us often, hours are flexible and there is plenty of vacation and sick time available. However there is basically 0 way to move up within the company or earn raises in pay.

Automotive industry stepping stone

After my interview I was excited to start working. Quickly found out that management cares more about hitting targets than providing quality products. The workload they throw at you is ridiculous, as are the deadlines they set. Quality control is almost non-existent which leads to many upset customers. If you need a foot in the door though, it's not a bad place to start.

Productive and Friendly workplace

They have a lot for you to do but the community is supportive and you could make a career out of it for sure. They have careers for sales, automotive technicians, or car detailing just depends what you like. I know they had a lot of benefits as well and they usually always work with any problems you have.

Fun at times

It’s ok had no problems at times, lack communication and common sense with some decisions. Liked the people and the staff. Alot of walking around outside

Dead end in my department

Unless you're comfortable with making the same amount for the rest of your life I suggest not working in that department. There are opportunities to work in other areas, but you need to invest alot of time or need certification.

They are beginning the switch, Work from home will no longer be a thing.

They are no longer offering remote employment, all employees will start going in one day a month, by next year 1 a week, and onward. Dont apply unless you want to work at the call centers. We received "raises" of 25 cents for tenure. Which they waved in our face like it was a big deal.

Good community, Managers who are happy to help, good time off policies.

Ending WFH, sometimes misinformation bouncing between people, poor communication between departments

It’s okay

The company is absolutely incredible don’t get me wrong. But the work and pay and hours never match us, I’ve been here over a year now and they’ve consistently had us work overtime and it never helped the situation with understaffing. I love this job but some of the management is just honestly questionable. I was promoted and was promised back pay and never received any of it.

Great place and benefits. Lots of room to grow. People are great and fun to work with. The company is great with showing appreciation for their employees.

Great place to work.

Plenty of opportunities for growth. Pay could be better. Management listens and makes changes as needed. Typical day of work varies. As long as you do your work you'll be fine. Don't get caught up in the cool crowd. Just my personal observation.

Productive & good pay

Great company to work for at times can get frustrated with the corporate bs as far as growth the opportunity is there it’s just gatekeeper by managers that don’t understand the business and hired outside of carmax

The better you are the more work they assign you.

Way too much work for the low pay. Can't detail your own car, EVER. Not even on your day off. Zero perks and terrible hours. If you are a professional like me, this is not the place for you.

Terrible management

It’s hard to get things through to management they don’t really take employee suggestions and you never know what kind of schedule you will be on. And they pay is manageable but not the best.

Easy Job

If you like sitting at a desk and talking with customers on the phone then CarMax can be a great place to work. Wh I worked every Saturday but off on Sundays. Off days off were not consecutive, although I think that has changed now.

Plenty of MANDATORY overtime, inconsistent management

Only 3 months I didn't have overtime out my 3 yrs of working. Constantly asking you to work late to meet production so managers can get their bonuses.
