As a part-time Business Office Associate at Carmax, I have been providing technical assistance with verifying documents, presenting financial contract along with terms and conditions, tendering transactions, obtaining payoffs, processing cash receipts, money orders and disbursements, preparing bank deposits, preparing documents for VA and out-of state DMVs and providing assistance with titling, registering and processing tags. Moreover, other responsibilities include promptly responding to customer inquiries and complaints, documenting communication, finding solutions and providing general assistance with answering multi-line phone calls. In 2014, I gave presentation on how properly to process out-of- state transactions to 40 sales consultants and 15 business office associates.

Horrible work experience

Worked in the business office and although the customer were amazing the staff and management was horrible and bias. They don’t care and if you don’t fit in with them they will do their best to try and get rid of you even if you are doing everything correctly in terms of your job description. I had a HORRIBLE experience with the staff here.

Great Business Model, Horrible place to work

The schedule is never set in stone, the pay is laughable. The security systems meant to keep people safe in the office don’t work, good luck trying to be friendly with coworkers, everyone there just wears a smile but is happy to try and get you fired for anything if it means they have a chance to move up. The part time workers are there for a check and nothing else and happily skate responsibilities off to full time people, leads frequently disappear for an hour+ and leave trainees in the office to try and handle things. They also are horrible when talking about other locations, it’s just drama, drama, drama at this location, avoid, avoid, avoid!!!!!

Disorganized

I barely had any training and it was impossible to learn the job. With the amount of disorganization and poor management, this was an awful place to work

I appreciate the fact that CarMax promotes within and allows current Associates the opportunity to move into Management roles with great training and mentors.

Great training with open door policy. Decent pay, not enough hours if you are part time

Most of the experience was decent, very understanding if time off is needed. As a part timer they will deduct your hours as needed so I would suggest being full time to lock yourself in.

Great Starter Job

Overall great company culture. You work 5 days a week one Saturday off a month. Business office manager pushed a lot of people to quit including myself. One annoying thing is the Business Office waits until the last customer to leave due to Sales. The store closes at 9pm but you can be there until 11pm waiting for the sale of a vehicle. I made a lot of great connections and memories there that I wont forget

Okay place to work

Alot of toxic employees will gossip behind your back well payed but to much favoritism. Management are nive at first but very strict about the thier rules. Moving up is good but also have to do alot of reviews

Fun workplace

The management team is super supportive and very flexible. I consider this role to be challenging at times due to the customer traffic but my managers are fully available and are always ready to help and step in.

I worked for carmax for 1year and I wish I never left. I should have stayed longer to grow in other areas! They have opportunities elsewhere and they take care of their employees!

My experience

I enjoyed my time here because the people were easier to work with. I always felt seen and heard. The only down side are the hrs I had to work. The hrs weren't set so sometimes I'd work a late shift and then turn around and work an early shift. This was really inconvenient because my commute was roughly 1 hr each way.

Productive and fun workplace

I had a chance to work with a great team and managers. They would buy us food when it was too busy. I loved working there, but sometimes it could take hours to finish with just one customer.

This particular location was the best as an employee. All workplaces have cliques, but it didn’t get in the way of people in different departments helping you.

Average

I learned a lot here, but the work environment was not the best. It was fast-paced which I enjoyed, but it is definitely a high school setting. Like every place, there was favoritism.

Once you get used to the procedures of doing the work, everything falls into place. The culture is very friendly and comfortable. You learn how to deal with all sorts of personalities from the customers and coworkers.

Great culture and great potential. It is an amazing company with the ability to move up quick. This position (like most with the company) requires a great skill of attention to detail and patience. You are serving customers, team members throughout the store, and other office members.
