I liked working here everyone was very nice and training was easy it would be long hours and could be time consuming at times it’s a great way to start

Company has steadily declined

Every year it gets harder to make money. With Omni most of the cars you sell will only pay half commissions which can make things very frustrating. Especially when you’re doing multiple test drives and 99% of the work. No raises in the last 10 years and none for the foreseeable future. Too many things are expected of you and you don’t even get compensated for doing those things. There is way too many ways to lose money after a sale and in today’s time with inflation we can’t afford to be losing money. If you’re looking to make some money in sales look elsewhere, this place is good if you’re a beginner and need to learn the basics.

Good people.

Good people to work for, however you must make sure you get the right training and feel free to ask questions. If not you can get frustrated, and no one likes that when working with their customers.

So far it isn't worth it.

I just started. Even though the trading is good. It's super hard to make a decent paycheck even if you're always selling cars.If a customer does anything online before seeing you. They automatically call it a remote lead and take half. From booking appointment to getting prequalified for different vehicle. It's 160 for a floor lead and cuts down to 80 for a remote! Most sales are remotes. Some you can get done less then 2 hours, but you have times it can take you 6 hrs so situations out of your control!

It's a lot of work for not enough pay.

Good Sales Training

Pros: CarMax has a good training program. Good benefits and management support. Cons: Every time there was a change to the compensation plan, it was always to cut our pay. Did not see a pay increase in years. Coworkers who had been with the company for 10+ years also mentioned they never saw an increase in the compensation plan the entire time they were there.

Good place to be if lost, very little long term growth

If your trying to get a decent living and aren’t afraid of constant supervision and rejections then Carmax is an option. The pay of decent and guaranteed at first but after a while your purely commission so have that on mind. Overall they’re pretty fair but the pay scale hasn’t changed for a long time so what was great back then is ok now.

Productive and out going

This company is fun place to work at if it’s your first time in sales , if you want a high paying job carmax wouldn’t meet those expectations because they pay you a strict commission no matter how many cars you sell or the price of the car that you’re selling , it’s great company to work for because of the benefits and also it’s great if you’re willing to stay and learn about sales it’s more like a school of sales .

Fun place to work, met some great people but hours are long and pay isn't the best. I've heard a lot of changes since covid but there is some solid training.

They preach integrity but have none themselves.

There is a reason 5 years ago the company was in the top 15 of Forbes top 100 companies to work for and now they are ranked over 120. A once great company is going in the wrong direction. Avoid if you want to make a decent living.

Definition of Micromanagement

Picture a relaxed work environment, the potential to not pressure anyone, then bring someone in who turns it into your typical "used car lot". Constantly badgering not only employees but to the point of belittling customers into "not leaving". Extended car warranties, yup we're gonna be pressured into making you buy it. Every single senior and upper management is being made to make sure that your numbers are up, ya know, so you can make them more money. Almost every single one of the crew I worked with, has quit, including myself. They can give you "coachings" and essentially write you up multiple times, but beyond a certain point, it's a written warning. They'll make sure you get 5 as well, so it becomes an actual documented write up. Basically if you're not shining shoes and buddies with them, you won't make it. You're way under compensated and they give you the mindset that commission is a sin, now being in commission sales, that was a blatant lie, I'm my own boss and they leave me alone, ya know like an adult?I'm glad I got out and I'm thriving. Good luck, once you wake up, you'll see the truth.

Good pay

Very good pay if you take enough customers. Only work 40 hours a week or choose to be part-time. I enjoyed my time there. The only thing I didn't enjoy was the frustrating customers.

Great place to work

I sold cars for a year. Carmax is very structured and they will teach you how to sell a car the Carmax way. The managers were good and supportive. The coworkers were also great. I moved from Austin to OKC and I was able to switch locations. They have a ton of different jobs so advancement and diversity is there. I would work there again, but not selling cars.

Fun job if you hustle

Very fun job if you are good at sales and like to work. No room for advancement and some managers play favorites. Great for the 18-23 year olds. Very high turn over.
